#23 Tartans Win Second Straight Match

(ORLANDO, Fla.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 23rd, defeated 29th-ranked Haverford College on Monday, March 6 in Orlando, Florida. The Tartans topped the Fords, 8-1, for their second straight win and moved to 4-3 for the season.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans swept doubles action with the number two team of junior Derek Wong and freshman Akshay Joshi finishing first with an 8-1 score.
  • Senior Matthew Poh and junior Nicholas Wernink also won by an 8-1 score at first doubles.
  • Joshi finished first in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at sixth singles.
  • After Haverford won at fifth singles, the Tartans won the remaining four singles places.
  • Poh earned the match point at fourth singles with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
  • Senior Raahil Doshi won a three-set match with junior Nicholas Wernink winning in a third-set tiebreaker.

  • Joshi won his second straight singles match for the spring.
  • Poh and Doshi each won their third straight singles match while Wernink won his second straight.
