#35 Tartans Defeat #17 Johns Hopkins
(FREDERICKSBURG, Va.) – The 35th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team traveled to Mary Washington University to play against the 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins University. The Tartans won 6-3 and are now 6-7 in dual play while Johns Hopkins is 5-5.
How it Happened
- The Tartans swept in doubles play to take a 3-0 lead into singles play.
- In first doubles, freshman Raghav Jangbahadur and freshman Daniel Kong won 8-5. In second doubles senior Derek Wong and senior Nadim Motaghedi won 8-3. In third doubles Nicholas Wernink and Theodore Gershon won 8-3.
- The Tartans won half of the singles games for a final score of 6-3.
- First singles was a shutout, with Jangbahadur winning 6-0, 6-3.
- Junior Chaitanya Irkar won sixth singles with a score of 7-5, 6-3 which was the match clincher for the Cardinal and Gray.
- Kong won second singles with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 score to round out the Tartans scoring.
