#25 Tartans Drop Battle to #4 Case Western Reserve, 6-3

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's tennis team, ranked 25th in Division III, entertained fourth-ranked Case Western Reserve University Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh. The Tartans dropped a 6-3 decision and are now 6-9 on the season in dual match play while the Spartans move to 23-4.

How it Happened:

  • Case Western Reserve took a 2-1 advantage following doubles play.
  • The Tartans point in doubles came at the third spot when the tandem of seniors Nicholas Wernink and Nadim Motaghedi won 8-6.
  • Freshmen Raghav Jangbahadur knotted the score at 2-all with a 6-3, 6-3 win at first singles.
  • Case Western Reserve then took points at two, three and five singles to seal the victory.
  • After the Spartans made the score 6-2 with a win at six singles, Wernink ended the scoring with a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (10-6) win at four singles.

  • The Tartans will next travel to Altamonte Springs, Florida, for the UAA Championship with play set to begin on Thursday, April 25. The draw for the tournament will be released by Monday, April 22.
