Tartans Place Well at Meet at Edinboro

(EDINBORO, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at Edinboro University on Saturday, January 21. Other teams competing consisted of host Edinboro, Robert Morris University, Penn State Behrend, Walsh University, Lock Haven University, Alfred College, Fredonia State University and Alderson-Broaddus College.

Junior Daniel Ching (Trout Valley, Ill./The Culver Academies) picked up a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69 while junior Noel Titus (Bronx, N.Y./Choate Rosemary Hall) finished the 60-meter dash in fourth place in a time of 7.32. Senior Ryan Kissell (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) won his heat in the 60-meter dash and finished sixth overall in 7.49 seconds.

Freshman Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.31 as senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) was fifth in 2:01.18.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Morhard, freshman Douglas O'Connell (Rye, N.Y./Fordham Prep), junior Ben Nealy (Egg Harbor Twp., N.J./Egg Harbor Twp.) and sophomore Mike Standish (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed first in a time of 8:13.12.

In the field events, sophomore Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) placed third in the weight throw with a mark of 15.17 meters as junior Patrick Robinson (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was fourth with a mark of 14.34 meters. Kissell placed second in the long jump with a distance of 6.33 meters while Robinson was sixth in the shot put with a mark of 13.40 meters.

The Tartans will continue with a meet hosted in Geneva, Ohio at the GaREAT Sports Complex on Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28.
