Kissell and Gates Named Academic All-District
(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University had two athletes named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for men's cross country and track and field for the 2011-12 season; senior Ryan Kissell (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson). CoSIDA recognizes outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments by honoring deserving athletes with All-Academic recognition with the official sponsor of Capital One.
Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.
This marks the second straight year that Kissell has been honored with the award. Kissell, a chemical engineering major, carries a 3.95 GPA. He ended his career as a five-time All-University Athletic Association (UAA) athlete in track and field after placing second at the 2012 UAA Championships in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
Gates became a two-time All-Mideast Region runner in the fall after placing sixth and went on to become an All-American after placing 28th at the 2011 NCAA Division III Championships. The junior is perfect in the classroom as a double major student with a 4.0 GPA in mechanical and biomedical engineering.
Both Kissell and Gates will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
