Aldrich Named to the USA Track & Field National Team Staff for 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University Associate Head Track and Field Coach Gary Aldrich has been named men's throws coach for the USA Track & Field National Team at the 2012 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships. The Championships will be held in Barcelona, Spain from July 10-15.  

Aldrich, who just completed his sixth season on the Tartans' staff, was recently honored as the 2012 USTFCCCA Mideast Regional Assistant Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's indoor season, as well as for the women's outdoor season.  He also received the same recognition in 2008.

In July 2010, Aldrich served as the assistant throws coach for the NACAC (North American, Central American, and Caribbean Athletic Association) Under 23 Team.  

The IAAF World Junior Championships in Athletics is a global competition for the top track and field performers under 20-years-old. The event has been held biennially since its inception in 1986 (in Athens).

Competition for the 2012 IAAF World Junior Championships will take place in the historic Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys de Montjuïc, the venue of the 1992 Barcelona Summer Games, exactly 20 years later. The setting, history and talent in 2012 are sure to make this an event to remember. More than 2,000 junior athletes will be competing and representing more than 180 countries.
