Two Take Top League Honors From UAA Coaches

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Two individuals from the Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team received University Athletic Association (UAA) Indoor Track and Field honors after competition closed on Sunday, April 27 at the championship meet. 

Senior Nathan Cheek (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) was named the UAA Men's Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events.  At the championship meet, Cheek tossed the discus a career-best 44.73 meters for second place and recorded another career-best mark in the javelin with a throw of 53.14 meters, placing third. He also scored points for the Tartans in the hammer throw and the shot put, placing third and fourth, respectively.

Freshman Andrew Chang (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) received the UAA honor of Men's Rookie of the Year. Chang had a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash during the championship meet with a career-best time of 21.97 to earn All-UAA status. He also scored points for the team with a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.68.

Chang is the first male representative from Carnegie Mellon to ever receive both UAA track rookie of the year honors, as he was named the recipient this year after placing second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 55-meter dash at the indoor championships.
