Two Set to Compete in the Outdoor Track and Field NCAA Championships
(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) - Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field duo, junior Thomas Vandenberg (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and senior Zachary Erra-Hernandez (Las Cruces, N.M./Onate), are set to compete in the 2014 NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships to be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 22-24. This year's championships are being hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
Vandenberg will be competing in the 800-meter run at the championship meet. With a season-best time of 1:50.23 and currently sitting fourth in the rankings, Vandenberg will compete in the prelims of the race on Friday at 8:15 p.m. Vanderberg competed in the 800-meter run at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and earned All-America honors when he crossed the finish line in fourth place.
Erra-Hernandez will be throwing the hammer on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. After breaking the school record four times throughout the season. He finished with a career-best throw of 56.12 meters which puts him at number 17 in the nation headed into the NCAA Championship meet. Erra-Hernandez competed in the outdoor championship meet in the shot put in 2012 where he finished in 12th place.
