Schofel Named UAA Most Outstanding Outdoor Performer, Coaching Staff Honored

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University junior Jacob Schofel (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Most Outstanding Performer in Field Events while the coaching staff was honored as the Men's Coaching Staff of the Year. These awards come after the team won its fourth UAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday, April 23.

Schofel recorded four career-best marks for the Tartans at the UAA Championships. He won the hammer throw for the second consecutive year when he tossed the element 54.38 meters. He placed second in the shot put with a mark of 14.47 meters, third in the discus throw with a mark of 45.64 meters and eighth in the javelin with a mark of 48.71 meters.

The Coaching Staff of the Year award is the sixth for the men's staff in outdoor competition as head coach Gary Aldrich, associate head coach Tim Connelly and assistant coaches Michael Stark, Jose Rivera and Michele Bradley was honored. The last time the program was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year was in 2009 when the team won its third UAA Outdoor Championship. On that staff was Aldrich as the associate head coach. He was also part of the staff in 2008 when it was honored after winning its second Association Championship.

This year's staff also earned the honor for the indoor season, as the team when its second UAA Indoor Championship.
