Five Tartans to Compete at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

(INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.) – Five Carnegie Mellon University men's indoor track and field athletes have received an invite to compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 11-12.

The five representing Carnegie Mellon is the second most in program history. In 2019, the team had six receive invites and prior to then, the Tartans have had no more than two individual competitors or an individual and a relay compete at the championships in a given year.

Senior Justin Kiefel (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown STEM Academy) is the lone repeat performer for the Tartans. The senior will compete in two events, triple and long jumps. In 2019, he competed in the triple jump at the championships and placed 14th. Joining Kiefel in Winston-Salem will be graduate student Bram Miller (Colgate, Wis. / Kettle Moraine Lutheran) (shot put), senior Michael OBroin (Park Ridge, Ill. / Saint Ignatius College Prep) (5,000-meter), freshman Cody Breidenbach (Nazareth, Pa. / Nazareth Area) (weight throw) and freshman Aleksei Seletskiy (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) (mile).

Kiefel will enter this year's event ranked fifth in the triple jump and 14th in the long jump. Set school records in both this season with a mark of 14.80 meters in the triple jump and 7.17 meters in the long jump. Miller, Breidenbach and OBroin also set the school record this season in each event they are competing in at the championships. Miller will enter ranked second in the shot with a throw of 17.22 meters while Breidenbach is ranked sixth with a mark of 18.93 meters. OBroin ranks seventh in the 5,000-meter field after breaking both the University Athletic Association indoor meet record and the Carnegie Mellon school record with a time of 14:23.22. Seletskiy season-best time of 4:11.56 in the mile will seed him 18th.

This year's championships will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with Visit Winston-Salem and Guilford College serving as hosts.
