Tartans Record Three Top Finishes at Westminster Invitational

(NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team competed at the Westminster Invitational over the weekend in a field comprised of Division II and III athletes with freshman Casey Potrebic (Calistoga, Calif. / Justin-Siena) competing at the Messiah University Invitational on Thursday and Friday in the decathlon.

Sophomore Andrew McGovern (Lexington, Mass. / Lexington) won the 400-meter hurdles crossing in 54.22. Senior Varun Narayan (Princeton, N.J. / Princeton) recorded the Tartans second top finish when he recorded a mark of 6.57 meters in the long jump. The third win came in the 5,000-meter run when sophomore Charlie Murphy crossed with a personal-best time of 14:52.39.

The 3,000-meter steeplechase saw the Tartans take the second and third in personal-best times. Junior Elijah Sech (San Clemente, Calif. / San Clemente) crossed in 9:24.35 and sophomore David Durdaller (Hewlett, N.Y. / George W. Hewlett) in 9:24.63.

Freshman Cody Breidenbach (Nazareth, Pa. / Nazareth Area) placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.55 meters.

Potrebic placed third in the decathlon with 5,580 points. The freshman took second in the shot put with a throw of 11.70 meters and discus (34.20 meters) while placing third in the 400-meter run (54.42) and pole vault (3.95 meters).

The Tartans will next compete at the Carnegie Mellon Last Chance Meet Thursday, April 14.
