Tartans Win Annual Invite

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team hosted its annual Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Gesling Stadium. The Tartans turned in four top finishes in a field comprised of Division I, II and III institutions and scored 200.5 team points to win the invite.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Junior Andrew McGovern won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.65.
  • Senior Elijah Sech and junior David Durdaller placed first and second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to start the running events. Sech crossed in 9:18.11 while Durdaller finished in 9:19.04.
  • Freshman Gaven Williams won the 400-meter race with a time of 50.59 while junior Austin Weltz took second in a personal-best time of 50.62.
  • The 4x400-meter relay team of Weltz, senior Leland Davies, Williams and junior Alex Ivanov won the event in a time of 3:27.01.
  • The Tartans finished second and third in the 1,500-meter run with Ivanov crossing in a personal-best time of 3:56.30 and sophomore Colin McLaughlin finishing in 3:56.82.
  • Freshmen Ryan Podnar and Thomas Damiani crossed second and third in the 3,000-meter run after posting times of 9:00.87 and 9:03.93.
  • Sophomore Colin McLaughlin ran a career-best time in the 800-meter run to place second with a time of 1:54.99.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • In the long jump, senior Alex Halkias placed second with a leap of 6.40 meters.
  • Freshman Christian Duckworth and sophomore Casey Potrebic both cleared the bar at 4.15 meters in the pole vault with Duckworth placing second on the judges decision.
  • The hammer saw sophomore Cody Breidenbach place second with a throw of 52.22 meters.
  • Senior Bailey O'Malley threw 15.25 meters in the shot put and placed second.

  • The Tartans will next compete at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University on Saturday, April 1.
