(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Elijah Sech of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team was named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week for running events. The senior earns the honor following his performance at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic over the weekend.

Sech broke the 24-year school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when he crossed the finish line with a time of 9:03.87 and placed fifth overall in a field of 59 runners and was the second Division III runner to cross. He broke Kristo Kriechbaum's record of 9:04.98 which was set in 1999. Sech now ranks sixth nationally and tops in the UAA in the steeplechase.
