Tartans Sweep 5K at All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University men's track and field team members competed at the All-Atlantic Regional Indoor Championships on Friday, March 1, and Saturday, March 2, hosted at the Golisano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University in Rochester, New York.

Top Performances on the Track:

  • Junior Matthew Coyle took first place in the 5,000-meter run with a career-topping time of 14:27.43 with graduate student Matthew Porter just behind him in second place in 14:28.53. Senior David Durdaller was third in a time of 14:37.39.
  • Freshman Christian Brower was the top finisher for the Tartans in the mile, placing 16th in a time of 4:21.33. Junior Eamon Brady was 19th in a time of 4:21.72.

Top Performances in the Field:

  • Sophomore Christian Duckworth led the Tartans in the pole vault by clearing 4.61 meters on his first attempt to place third. Freshman Ryan Handron also cleared 4.61 meters but finished fifth after clearing the bar on his third attempt.
  • Graduate student Bailey O'Malley placed ninth in the shot put with a mark of 14.91 meters.
  • Junior Sebastian Sanso placed sixth in the high jump after clearing 1.97 meters and 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.39 meters.

Up Next:

  • The Tartans will now wait to see the qualifying lists for the NCAA Indoor Championships at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday, March 8-9. The list will be announced late Sunday night.
