McGovern and Duckworth Named UAA Athletes of the Week

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Senior Andrew McGovern and sophomore Christian Duckworth of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team were named University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week. McGovern garnered the accolade for running events after his performance at the Carnegie Mellon Annual Invitational while Duckworth earns the honor for his showing in the field events at the same meet.

McGovern competed and two events and was victorious in both. He won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.55 and then was part of the 4x400-meter relay team that closed the meet with a top finish. The senior ran the final leg of the race and stretched at the finish line for a .01 second Tartan victory with a time of 3:20.27. His time in the 400-meter hurdles is currently tops in the UAA and fifth nationally while the relay time ranks third in the UAA and 15th nationally.

A week after breaking the school record in the pole vault, Duckworth topped his mark from a week ago clearing the bar at 4.88 meters to win the event and set a new Gesling Stadium record. His previous height was 4.70 meters. Duckworth's height is currently tops in the UAA and ninth nationally.
