Rich Earns All-America Honor in Decathlon at NCAA Outdoor Championships

(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) – Senior Thomas Rich of the Carnegie Mellon University men's outdoor track and field team earned All-America recognition in the decathlon at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. The championships are being held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Rich's Performances:

  • Rich completed the final five events of the decathlon Friday and ended with 6,796 points to place seventh.
  • Rich finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles crossing in 15.07 seconds and seventh in the javelin with a toss of 50.44 meters.
  • The senior placed 11th in both the discus and pole vault. He had a mark of 34.47 meters in the discuss and then cleared the bar at 4.00 meters in the pole vault.
  • Rich closed the decathlon with a time of 4:54.25 in the 1,500-meter run placing 15th.

Notes:

  • The All-American honor for Rich is his first of his career for the outdoor season.
  • Rich now has two All-American honors for his career after garnering the accolade in the heptathlon this past indoor season.
