Tartans Place Fifth at UAA Meet

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – Junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) led the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Saturday, October 29. The University of Chicago served as the host at Montrose Harbor where Washington University in St. Louis won the event.

Gates finished the 8k race second to earn All-UAA First Team honors in a time of 25:41.01.

Sophomore Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif.) was second to finish for the Tartans as he crossed the line 16th overall in 26:23.36. Sophomore Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) crossed 37th in 27:01.16 while three Tartans finished not far behind.  Senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methaeton) and  sophomore Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) placed 43rd and 49th with times of 27:15.06 and 27:26.78 while fellow sophomore Mike Standish (Washington, Pa./Trinity) placed 51st with a time of 27:30.23.

Junior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass.) rounded out the field for the Tartans as he crossed in 27:50.04, placing 56th.

The Tartans will next compete again on Saturday, November 12, at the Mideast Regional hosted by DeSales College in Center Valley, Pa. The race is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
