Tartans Finish Fifth and Third at Long-Short Invite

(CARLISLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team traveled to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, for the Dickinson College Long-Short Invitational on Saturday, September 24. The Tartans finished fifth in the long race (8k) as John Hopkins won the race and third in the short race (4k) as Dickinson won.

In the 8k, junior Evan Gates (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) finished third overall in 26:48 while sophomore Adam Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) finished 15th in 27:27. Sophomore Brendan O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) was 23rd overall for the Tartans in a time of 27:38 as junior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass.) was 44th junior Graham Shorr (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep CDS) was 45th in times of 28:21 and 28:25.

In the 4k, sophomore Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif.) led the Tartan charge with a eighth-place finish in 12:46. Senior Rob Morhard (Eagleville, Pa./Methaeton) crossed the line in 20th place in 13:05 as sophomore Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was behind him in 22nd place in 13:09. Senior Kyle Andrews (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) was the fourth Tartan to finish the 4k race as he did in 24th place in a time of 13:12.

The Tartans will now have a week off from racing before hosting their own invitational of Saturday, October 8, at 11:00 a.m.
