Tartans Race to Second Place at Mack Cooper Invitational

(SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.) – Junior Josh Newby's (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) fourth-place finish paced the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team to a second-place showing at the Mack Cooper Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University at Cooper's Lake Campground. The team had three runners finish in the top 10 of the race.

Newby led the Tartans with a time of 26:12.83 to finish fourth while junior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was sixth and sophomore George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) was seventh. Murphy crossed the finish line in 26:32.63 with Degan behind him at 26:35.46.

Finishing fourth for the Tartans was junior Adam Cantini (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) in 11th place in 26:44.79 as senior Graham Shorr (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep CDS) was 13th in 26:57.16.

Rounding out the Tartans' sixth and seventh-place runners were senior Billy Littlefield (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) in 15th place and sophomore Joe Pane (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) in 27th place. Littlefield finished in 27:06.47 as Pane crossed in 27:16.55.

The Tartans will next run at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa., on Saturday, September 22 at 10:30 a.m.
