Newby Paces Tartans to Fifth Place at Regional Meet

(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) – Senior runner Josh Newby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) placed 13th overall to lead the Carnegie Mellon University men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2013 Mideast Regional on Saturday, November 16, at Lehigh University in Allentown, Pa.

Johns Hopkins University won the meet as Allegheny College senior Bobby Over was the top finisher with a time of 24:29.

Newby finished the 8k race in 25:06 to lead the Tartans while junior George Degen (Madison, Wis./West) was second for the Tartans in 23rd place in 25:24. Senior Ken Murphy (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was next to cross the finish line for the Tartans in 24th place with a time of 25:25.

Sophomore Marc-Daniel Julien (Skokie, Ill./Niles West)  was 34th overall in a time of 25:41 before senior Brenden O'Hara (Chicago, Ill./Latin School of Chicago) finished 69th in 26:24. Freshman Brian Bollens (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) crossed the line in 26:31 for 77th place while junior Eamon Cullinane (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) finished in 27:19 for 132nd place.
