Tartans Win Annual Home Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The seventh ranked Carnegie Mellon University men's cross-country team won its home Hampton Inn Pittsburgh – University/Medical Center Invitational on Saturday. The Tartans finished with seven men in the top ten in a field of Division I, II and III runners.

Sophomore Naveen Pai (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) was first overall in a filed of 104 runners with a time of 26:11. "I didn't expect today's result just coming back from injury," said the sophomore who made his season debut. "I surprised myself, I didn't think it would be this quick of a transition coming back from injury because I just had a few workouts before this," added Pai, "I'm really excited to see what else I can do before the season ends."

Fellow sophomore Arthur Dzieniszewski (Old Bridge, N.J. / Old Bridge) finished second overall just eight seconds behind Pai in a time of 26:19. Junior Hunter Hartshorne (Ithaca, N.Y. / Ithaca) was third for the Tartans and fourth overall finishing alongside alumni Joe Pane in 26:26.

Senior William Mitchell (Chatham, N.J. / Chatham) was fourth for the Tartans finishing sixth overall in 26:42. Junior Harrison Branch-Shaw (New York City, N.Y. / Brooklyn Technical) closely followed in 26:45 placing seventh overall and fifth for the Tartans. Freshman Naren Karur (Santa Clara, Calif. / Saint Francis) and sophomore Matthew Karee (Elmira N.Y. / Notre Dame) closed out the Tartan's top seven and finished in eighth and ninth overall with times of 26:56 and 27:05, respectively.

The Tartans will race again next Saturday, October 13, at the Rowan Inter-Regional Invitational in Glassboro, New Jersey.
