Women’s Basketball Drop Contest at #2 Chicago

(CHICAGO, Ill.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team played at #2 University of Chicago Friday, February 10 and dropped a 95-46 University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. Carnegie Mellon is now 8-13, 2-8, as Chicago remains unbeaten at 21-0, 10-0.

Chicago started the game making eight of its first nine shot attempts while taking a 17-3 lead six minutes into the contest.  The home team went on and built a 45-17 halftime lead after shooting 57% from the floor in the first stanza to the Tartans 30%.  The Maroons forced 23 first half Tartan turnovers that they turned into 33 points.  

The Maroons started the second half much like the first, as they converted six of their first eight shots to take a 63-27 lead and stayed in control winning 95-46.

The Tartans ended the game shooting 54% to Chicago's 33%. Junior Emily Peel (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) scored in double figures for the 16th time this season to lead the Tartans with 15 points.

For Chicago, Hannah Ballard led the way with 20 points while Bryanne Halfhill had 13 points.  Ballard recorded a game-high eight rebounds as the Maroons held the edge in total rebounding 43-27.

The Tartans will travel to Washington University in St. Louis Sunday, February 12 for a 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time tip.
