Otto Named D3hoops.com Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year

(MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.) – Carnegie Mellon women's basketball player Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was named D3hoops.com 2013 Great Lakes Region Rookie of the Year today. This honor follows the freshman's All-University Athletic Association Second Team honor two weeks ago.

Otto had a fantastic first year for the Tartans, starting all 26 games and finishing third on the team in scoring with 10.3 points per game and second on the team in rebounding with 8.0 boards a game. She recorded five double-doubles and scored in double-figures on 15 occasions, tallying a career-high 22 points in a 65-60 win at Brandeis University. The freshman led the team with 76 assists (2.9 per game) and grabbed double-digit rebounds on nine occasions, which also led the team.

Otto becomes the first Carnegie Mellon women's basketball player to earn D3hoops.com Region Rookie of the Year honors since the award's inception following the 2006-2007 season.
