Murphy Earns CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District Honors

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) has been named to the women's basketball 2015 Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Murphy is one of five players on the District 4 team. To be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must be a starter or significant reserve and maintain a GPA of 3.3 or better.

Carnegie Mellon is part of District 4 which is comprised of all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania. Murphy will now move on to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-America recognition.

Murphy is in the middle of another record-breaking year as she leads the Tartans and University Athletic Association (UAA) in scoring with 20.4 points per game. She is 96 points shy of breaking her own school record for points in a season, 463, with seven games to play in the regular season. The sophomore post player leads the nation in shooting percentage at .675 and the UAA in free-throw percentage at .874, making her a duel threat. Murphy also leads the UAA in blocks per game (2.28) and rebounds per game (9.9).

In the classroom, Murphy is a psychology major with a 3.72 GPA. She is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, the SDC buggy racing team and has interned with The Children's School on campus.

The Tartans (11-7, 2-5) are at the mid-way point of the UAA season and host seventh-ranked Washington University on Friday, February 6 at 6:00 p.m.
