Murphy Leads Three Named to All-UAA Women’s Basketball Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team had three players named to the All-University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Basketball Team by the league's coaches when the Association announced its postseason awards Wednesday, March 4. Sophomore Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) headlines with her second first-team award while juniors Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) and Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) were honored with honorable mention nods.

Murphy finished the season as the only player in Carnegie Mellon women's basketball history to average at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in a season and became just the second player to average a double-double when she finished with 20.2 points and 10.2 rebounds a game. She led the UAA in five categories, including points per game, rebounds per game, blocks per game (2.8), double-doubles (13) and field-goal percentage (.664). She was second in free-throw percentage (.834) and offensive rebounds per game (3.8). Murphy led the nation in field-goal percentage and broke her own single-season school records in the same category along with total points with 505, field goals made with 182, and free throws made with 141. She became the new single-season record holder in blocked shots with 70 and set the school and UAA single-game record for blocks with 10 against Brandeis University. During the year she also set new career highs in rebounds with 21 at Marietta and free throws made with 13 at the University of Rochester.

Otto averaged 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds with 2.5 assists for the season and makes her third appearance on the All-UAA team. She recorded a season-high 20 points against Penn State Altoona and Rochester while grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds against Westminster.

Poss earned her first All-UAA award after finishing second on the team with 12.2 points per game and 8.4 rebounds a game, a jump of four points and two rebounds a game from a year ago. She finished ranked fourth in the UAA in rebounds and seventh in points while starting 20 of 22 games. She set a new career-high for points with 27 at New York University and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds against Denison. The junior also set new career highs in assists with seven versus Westminster, field goals made with 10 at New York and three-pointers made with five, also at New York.
