Tartans Extend Win Streak to Eight with Victory at Grove City

(GROVE CITY, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Grove City College and defeated the Wolverines, 80-63. The Tartans are now 8-0 on the season while the Wolverines fall to 2-5.

Grove City led after the first 10 minutes, 18-16, but the Tartans used a 25-11 second quarter to take a 12-point halftime lead.

Senior Lindsay Poss (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) hit the Tartans' third three-pointer of the second quarter with 5:22 to play to give the Tartans their first lead since late in the first quarter. That trey sparked a 15-2 run for the Cardinal and Gray, as junior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook (Colgate)) scored 13 of her 17 points in the frame.

The Tartans would lead by as many as 20 points when sophomore Anna Novak (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights) put in two free throws with 1:56 to go in the third quarter. Seven of the team's 21 third quarter points came from the free throw line as the Tartans shot a season-high 81.8% (18-22) from the charity stripe for the game.

The offense stayed consistent and answered all of Grove City's attempts to get back in the game as the Wolverines' largest run of the final period was five points which came during a 30-second span with under two minutes to play.

Poss and junior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) each scored 23 points in the Tartans' 17-point victory. Murphy led the Tartans, who outrebounded the Wolverines 42-28, with nine rebounds. Senior Liza Otto (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) collected a season-high six assists.

The Tartans will take a break from competition and resume the season in 20 days when they face Westminster College at 6:00 p.m. in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.
