Murphy Repeats as UAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Year

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball senior Lisa Murphy (McLean, Va./McLean) received top honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA) as the Women's Basketball Player of the Year. The honor is her second straight as she became the first women's basketball player in Carnegie Mellon history to be a four-time first-team selection. Joining Murphy on the All-Association team is senior Jackie Hudepohl (Saratoga, Calif./Lynbrook/Colgate) who was honored for the second time, this year on the second team.

Murphy's stat line is hard to ignore at 24.6 points per game, 13.2 rebounds per game, 2.7 blocks per game and 1.5 assists per game. While her 24.6 points per game ranks third in the nation, the senior is once again leading the nation in shooting percentage with a stat of 79.9%. She scored 31 or more points in eight games, including a UAA record 44 points against Emory University. She had a string of 11 double-doubles while she finished the 25-game season with 18. For the 14-game UAA season, the 6-1 center led the Association in points per game (24.0), rebounds per game (13.7), shooting percentage (77.2%), free-throw percentage (82.9%) and blocks per game (3.1).

Murphy's senior season included the career milestone of becoming the first player in UAA women's basketball history and 18th player in Division III history to record 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds for her career. Additionally she is the 8th player in Division III history to tally 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 200 blocks. She set UAA game records of points scored (44), field goals made (16), rebounds (24) and offensive rebounds (12) along with season marks for points scored (336), scoring average (24.0), field goals made (122) and overtook her own record for shooting percentage (77.2%). Additionally, she set a new season rebounding record, surpassing the previous mark of 304 set by Amy Buxbaum in 1990-91.

Hudepohl finished the regular season second on the team in points per game with 14.8 and rebounding with an average of 7.4 a game. The senior is shooting 43.0% from the floor and leads the UAA in free throw percentage at 84.1% for the year. In addition to her shooting and rebounding stats, Hudepohl is fifth in the UAA in assists per game at 3.2 and eighth in blocks with 0.8 per game.
