Tartans Selected to ECAC Championship Tournament; Set to Host 4-Team Field

(DANBURY, Conn.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 12-11 record and have been selected to compete for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Women's Basketball Championship for the first time since 2016-17 when the team was crowned champions. The Tartans were elected to host the four-team field with competition set to start Wednesday, March 2.

The 2021-22 Tartan squad finished 6-8 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) and 6-3 in the non-conference with two of their non-conference losses coming to NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship selections.

The Tartans will open the ECAC Championship against the number one seed, Kean University, at 5:30 p.m. with the number two seed, Penn State Behrend, facing number three seed, Westminster College, at 7:30 p.m. The winners of each game will play Saturday, March 5 at noon.

Leading the Tartans is freshman guard Catherine Or (Los Angeles, Calif. / Marlborough School) and senior forward Caitlyn Clendenin (Bethesda, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase). Or has recorded six double-doubles this season and averages 14.4 points per game with 7.8 rebounds per game. Or is also the leader for the Tartans in assists per game with 3.6 and steals per game with 2.1. Clendenin averages 13.0 points per game with 8.6 rebounds per game and had five double-doubles this year.

Senior Leah Weslock (Howell, Mich. / Howell), who tallied a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds against Case Western Reserve University to solidify the Tartans winning record for the season, is third on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game.

The ECAC appearance will be the fourth for the Tartans, who also won the ECAC South Tournament in 2000.
