Tartans Open Season with 83-58 Road Win at Allegheny

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team traveled to Meadville, Pennsylvania, to open the season against Allegheny College on Tuesday, November 8 and won 83-58 after shooting 47.1% from the floor.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans scored the first five points and went on to lead 16-6 six minutes into the first quarter following a three-pointer by sophomore Catherine Or.
  • Junior Megan Matsko led the Tartans in the first quarter with nine points.
  • A 10-point first-quarter lead increased to 12 by halftime with the Tartans hitting 50.0% from the floor for the quarter with seven different players scoring.
  • The Tartans owned the third quarter on the scoreboard, outscoring the Gators, 21-12. Eight of those points came from the free-throw line, and the Tartans led by 21 going into the final frame.
  • The Tartans again shot 50.0% from the floor in the fourth quarter with sophomore Anisha Chintala leading with six points for the frame, making 3-of-4 from the floor.

For the Tartans

  • Or led the Tartans with 19 points and four assists.
  • Matsko scored 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
  • Chintala and freshman Ava Black each scored 10 points. Black also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

For the Gators

  • Emily Lauer led with 18 points.
  • Sarah Santicola recorded nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Jess Bickart collected five assists.

Notes

  • The Tartans have won nine straight games against the Gators.
