Tartans Win Fourth Straight

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team played its first home game of the season, topping Grove City College by a 56-34 score to win its fourth straight game on Thursday, November 17. The Tartans are 4-0 while the Wolverines drop to 0-3.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans forced 17 turnovers and turned them into 14 points.
  • Ten of the Wolverines' turnovers came in the second half when the Tartans grew a five-point halftime lead to 14 points before the final period began.
  • The Tartans shot 50.0% in the first frame but trailed 13-11 after committing nine turnovers.
  • Twelve team blocks by the Tartans contributed to the Wolverines shooting just 16.1% from the floor for the game.
  • Sophomore Catherine Or led the Tartans in the pivotal third quarter with six points and seven rebounds.

For the Tartans

  • Or led the Tartans for the fourth game with 15 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds.
  • Junior Megan Matsko tallied a career-high six blocks to lead the defense while scoring nine points.
  • Or also had a game-high four assists.
  • Freshman Savannah Gibbs grabbed a season-best nine rebounds while freshman Ava Black pulled down a season-best eight rebounds.
  • Chintala and freshman Ava Black each scored 10 points. Black also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

For the Wolverines

  • Grove City was led by Megan Kallock's eight points.
  • Nina Cano grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.

  • The Tartans trailed after the first quarter for the first time this year.
  • The Tartans lead at halftime for the fourth time this year.
  • The Tartans are now 7-0 against Grove City under head coach Jacquie Hullah.
