Tartans Fall to #10 Rochester on the Road
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team closed a University Athletic Association (UAA) weekend at 10th-ranked University of Rochester on Sunday, January 15. The Yellowjackets defended their home court with a 90-64 win. The Tartans are now 9-5 overall and 0-3 in the UAA while Rochester moves to 12-1 and 3-0.
How it Happened
- The Tartans hit 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the first quarter and trailed 23-21 after falling behind by 10 points four minutes into the game.
- With the Tartans trailing by two, 28-26, the Yellowjackets went on a 9-0 to go up double digits.
- Nine of the Tartans' 18 second-quarter points came from the free throw line.
- Sophomore Catherine Or hit a three-pointer with 21 seconds to go in the half to bring the Tartans within five points but a triple by Alexis Sestric with five seconds to go ended the half with Rochester leading, 47-39.
- The Yellowjackets shot 52.9% in the third quarter to the Tartans' 28.6% and extended their advantage to 20 points at 75-55.
For the Tartans
- Sophomore Isha Nambisan led with 15 points after making 4-of-7 from behind the arc.
- Freshman Savannah Gibbs tallied 10 points.
- Freshmen Ava Black and Ava Arias each tallied six rebounds.
For the Yellowjackets
- Katie Titus dropped in 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds to go with five assists.
- Sestric finished with 16 points and Callie McCulley scored 12 points.
Notes
- The Tartans had won the previous four meetings in Rochester.
- This marks the second game this season that Nambisan has hit four or more three-pointers.
