Four Tartans Score in Double Figures in Loss to Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team hosted the Emory University Eagles on Friday, February 10, falling 70-59. The Tartans are now 11-10 overall and 2-8 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Eagles move to 14-6 and 5-5.

How it Happened

  • The Tartans led 9-2 after the first two minutes of play with sophomore Anisha Chintala scoring the first five points of the game.
  • Freshman Savannah Gibbs put the Tartans up 13 with a jumper off an offensive rebound with 3:27 to go in the first quarter.
  • Sophomore Isha Nambisan drained the team's first three-pointer of the game with 2:11 to go in the quarter to give the Tartans their largest lead at 20-6.
  • The Eagles cut into the Tartans' lead in the second quarter by hitting three from long range and 37.5% of their attempts after scoring just 18.8% in the first frame.
  • The Tartans lead 36-27 at the break with Chintala scoring 13 points.
  • The Eagles opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run that they extended to 16-6 to take the lead at 43-42 with 3:32 to go.
  • The Tartans scored just 10 points in the third and the Eagles led by five going into the final frame.
  • A triple by Daniella Aronsky, her fifth of the game, gave the Eagles their first double-digit lead at 60-50 with 6:49 to play.
  • The Tartans pulled back to within six points after two free throws by junior Megan Matsko but the Eagles answered with a three-pointer and scored four straight foul shots to finish the game.

For the Tartans

  • Or led the Tartans with another double-double, her 11th of the season, with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Chintala hit seven baskets and finished with 15 points.
  • Freshman Savannah Gibbs dropped in 12 points and junior Megan Matsko scored 10.
  • Gibbs led the team with four assists while Matsko had another three blocks.

For the Eagles

  • Aronsky led the team with 18 points after making 5-of-7 from behind the arc.
  • Izzy Munson scored 15 off the bench and Morgan Laudick scored 12.
