Tartans Celebrate Seniors Before Entertaining #22 Emory

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball team faced 22nd-ranked Emory University on Sunday, February 18 in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest. The Tartans dropped the contest by a 72-54 score to fall to 11-13 overall and 3-10 in the UAA. The Eagles are now 19-5 and 9-4.

How It Happened

  • Senior Megan Matsko scored the first basket of the game on an assisted layup from senior Anika Prasad one minute into the game.
  • The teams would trade baskets with four ties until Emory took the lead at the 2:16 mark with a three-pointer by Lily Kennedy that made it 13-11.
  • A triple by freshman Kayla Delmore was the last bucket of the quarter and the Tartans trailed 15-14.
  • The second quarter was similar to the first with the team's trading points. Junior Catherine Or gave the Tartans a brief lead again with a jumper outside the paint that made it 24-22 with 4:17 to go.
  • Kennedy answered on the next possession with another three-pointer and the Eagles scored the final eight points of the half to lead 30-24 at the break.
  • Seven offensive boards for the Eagles in the third quarter led to eight second-chance points and despite the Tartans shooting 50.0% for the frame, the Eagles extended their lead to 13 points.
  • Emory had its best shooting quarter in the final frame, hitting 9-of-16 for 56.3%, with two more three-pointers to convert 11-of-33 for the game.
  • The Tartans were 4-of-14 from long range for the game and shot 37.7% from the field.

For the Tartans

  • Chintala led with 12 points while sophomore Savannah Gibbs and Delmore each scored 10 points.
  • Or, the team's leading scorer at 16.6 points per game, was held to six points but grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
  • Gibbs also contributed seven rebounds and four assists.

For the Eagles

  • Morgan Laudick led with 19 points, as Daniella Aronsky had 12 and Kennedy finished with 11 points.
  • Aronsky tied the UAA record with 13 assists while the Tartans held UAA leading scorer Claire Brock to 1-of-10 from the field for three points in 32 minutes of action.
