Bio

Samantha Crough joined the Carnegie Mellon University women's basketball staff as a full-time assistant coach in September 2017. Crough arrived in Pittsburgh from Williams College in Massachusetts.

In three years on the sidelines in Pittsburgh, Crough has mentored two players to four All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honors, including 2020 graduate Makayla Filiere who tallied her 1,000 career point during the 2019-20 season and finished as the fifth-leading scorer in Carnegie Mellon women's basketball history. In each of the three past seasons, the Tartans have recorded a double-digit win total and increased it's UAA winning percentage each year.

Crough served as an assistant coach at Williams for two seasons, helping to lead the Ephs to two winning seasons and a .640 winning percentage. While at Williams, Crough worked with both guards and forwards, was the coordinator of game film breakdown and analysis, and was the lead assistant with responsibilities centered on game time management.

"Samantha is the perfect fit for our program,” said Hullah. “She is committed to the growth and development of our scholar-athletes both on and off the court. Her love of the game, teaching abilities, and passion for recruiting will contribute to the continued growth and tradition of excellence that we have established for CMU women’s basketball.”

Prior to arriving in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Crough was an assistant coach at Emerson College for the 2014-15 season where she helped lead the Lady Lions to the NEWMAC quarterfinals.

Crough’s coaching background also includes working as an AAU head coach at Hanover U, a basketball complex in Hanover, Massachusetts. While there she worked with 6th, 7th, and 8th graders and conducted private lessons.

A native of Cohasset, Massachusetts, Crough graduated from Endicott College in 2014 with a degree in psychology, a minor in sociology, and a certificate in coaching.

An accomplished player at Endicott, Crough helped lead the Gulls to three straight Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournaments and scored 1,284 career points. She was named the ECAC Tournament MVP after the Gulls defeated Smith College in the ECAC DIII New England Championship to close out the 2013-14 season. She graduated as the all-time career leader in field goals made and was fifth in points scored and blocked shots. Crough was also named the Endicott Female Athlete of the Year as a senior and was honored on the All-Commonwealth Coast Conference team three times.

Crough is currently working on her master’s degree in sports management with a concentration in leadership from Lasell College.
