Tartans Begin Action in First-Ever UAA Women's Golf Championships

(SORRENTO, Fla.) - For the first time in University Athletic Association (UAA) history the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team competed with Washington University in St. Louis and New York University in the first-ever UAA Women's Golf Championships. The competition is being played at Red Tail Country Club in Sorrento, Florida, with third-ranked Washington U. leading with a team total of 315.

The Tartans, in their first year of varsity competition, carded a 388 with a team of all freshman.

Leading the Tartans on day one at the par 72 course was freshman Summer Kitahara (Greenwich, Conn./Rye Country Day), who is tied for fifth and five strokes back, with an 18-hole score of 80. Freshmen Robin Tan (Austin, Texas/Westlake) and Emma Hoskins (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) carded a 96 and 99 while first-year players Ginger Glass (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) and Diana Zhou (Diamond Bar, Calif./Diamond Bar) finished the course with a 113 and 120, respectively.

Playing as an individual, freshman Isabelle Tseng (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro South) carded a 104.

The second and final round will be played on Monday, March 9 at Red Tail beginning at 9 a.m.
