Five Tartans Named WGCA All-American Scholars

(CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.) – Five members of the Carnegie Mellon University women's golf team have been named to the 2019-20 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, as announced by the organization. Senior Yedin Lui (Idaho Falls, Idaho), junior Charlotte Simpson (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and sophomore Nadia Susanto (Irvine, Calif./Arnold O. Beckman) are repeat honorees with freshmen Michelle Cao (Johns Creek, Ga./Northview) and Michelle Koo (Scottsdale, Ariz./BASIS Scottsdale Charter) joining the trio. This is the most honorees that the Tartans have had in program history and marks the third straight year four or more have been recognized.

A total of 1,401 women's collegiate golfers were recognized from NCAA Division I, II and III. The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team is a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

The five helped the Tartans earn the top position in the final Division III national rankings by Golfstat this season. The number one ranking was the first for a women's team sport at Carnegie Mellon. The Cardinal and Gray competed in four events (nine rounds) this season and ended with a team scoring average of 308.78.

The Tartans ended the shortened season with a top-place finish at the 14-team, 36-hole Savannah Invitational, which was played on the par 72, 5,800-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club. In the fall, the Tartans won two of the three events they competed in while they opened the season with a second-place showing at the 13-team 2019 NCAA Division III Preview held at the PGA National Palmer Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. During play at the Golfweek DIII Fall Invitational, one of the two fall wins, the trio helped the Tartans break two team records by carding an 18-hole team score of 296 in the middle round and a 54-hole total of 908.
