Tartans Win Streak Ends at Washington & Jefferson

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team had its five-game win streak snapped at Washington & Jefferson College Saturday, September 24. The Tartans fell 2-0 to the Presidents and now have a record of 5-3 while the Presidents have an identical season record.

The Presidents were able to make good on the few opportunities they had, scoring twice off three shots on frame. Their first goal came in the 23rd minute off a header by Dawn Murphy from a set piece kick by Holly Shipley.

Murphy and Shipley hooked up again in the second half as Murphy scored in the 68th minute for her third of the season.

The Tartans had their opportunities but were denied 10 times by President keepers Stephanie Saussol and Heather Betancourt. Freshman Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) had three shots on goal while junior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North), senior Elsa Wu (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) and freshman Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) each had two shots on goal.

The Tartans will host Denison University on Wednesday, September 28, at 7:00 p.m. before traveling to St. Louis, Missouri, on Sunday, October 2, to open University Athletic Association play against #14 Washington University.
