Late Goal Takes Down Tartans in Season Opener

(BALTIMORE, Md.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team opened the season on the road at the Johns Hopkins University Tournament on Saturday, September 3. A late goal by Eastern University gave the Eagles a 1-0 win over the Tartans.

A very evenly played game saw both teams attempt eight shots with four on goal. Each team also took one corner kick.

Sophomore goalkeeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/) made two of her three saves in the last 20 minutes of action including one with four minutes to go.

Eastern was able to get one by Albi in the last minute with 10 seconds to play when Tess Beckwith scored off an assist from Carly Inch.

Sophomore Cecilia Zischkau (Washington, D.C./Oakcrest) had a shot stopped in the 75th minute after junior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) had a shot denied in the 69th minute.

Freshman Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) hit the post with her first collegiate shot, nearly giving the Tartans a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

The Tartans continue action at the Johns Hopkins Tournament on Sunday, September 4 when they face the host team Blue Jays at 3:00 p.m.
