(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team fell in a tightly contested match, 3-2, to New York University on Friday, October 28, in Pittsburgh. The Tartans drop to 8-6 overall and 2-3 in the University Athletic Association while the Violets jump to 11-5 and 2-3.

The Violets opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Erin Ahmed finished a shot from the top of the box when Serra Tumay touched a pass off after collecting a poor clearance by the Tartan defense.

The Tartans were able to equalize in the 26th minute when freshman Jordyn Greenberg (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) lofted a free kick to the box that freshman Madison Nagle (Sacramento, Calif./Del Campo) headed over the arms of Meg Patten in goal for her first career score.

New York was able to regain the lead in the 60th minute when Mary Clair sent a pass to the top of the 18-yard box. Imani Ribadeneyra then one-timed a shot to the corner post for her second goal of the season.

In the 73rd minute, the Tartans equalized again when freshman Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) was the recipient of a pass from sophomore Rachel Contopoulos (Oakland, Calif./Berkeley). Contopoulos put a pass to the center of the 18-yard box after a free kick by sophomore Brittany Couture (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara). Reid finished the pass with precision to the low far post.

With three minutes to play, NYU struck again as Leslie Smith found the far corner netting after Tumay played a pass forward. The goal sealed the win for the Violets.

The Tartans will conclude their home season on Sunday, October 30, when Brandeis University visits campus for a 1:30 p.m. game.
