(CUMBERLAND, Md.) – The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team traveled to Cumberland, Maryland, for a 7:00 p.m. match against Frostburg State University, defeating the Bobcats 1-0 Thursday night. The Tartans improve to 3-2 on the season while Frostburg falls for the first time and is now 5-1.

The Tartans took charge early in the contest with two shots and four corner kicks in the first 10 minutes. Junior Brianna Magill (Oak Brook, Ill./Downers Grove North) had a header shot saved while sophomore Alex Venegas (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) sent one wide.

In the 17th minute, Venegas was able to get a shot past Frostburg keeper Michelle Buckmaster after receiving a pass from freshman Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) for her first goal of the season.

The Tartans followed the goal with an onslaught of shots but the score stayed 1-0 at the break. The Cardinal and Gray put two more shots on frame before the Bobcats got their first shot off, which sophomore Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) stopped, in the 33rd minute.

Magill had another shot saved in the first five minutes of the second period while Venegas and senior Elsa Wu (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) had back-to-back shots stopped by Buckmaster in the 69th and 71st minutes.
