Reid's Early Goal Lifts Tartans to a1-0 Win Over #19 Chicago

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – Carnegie Mellon University freshman Savina Reid's (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) goal in the 30th minute of play was all the Tartans needed to defeat the Maroons of Chicago on Sunday afternoon, October 9.  The 1-0 victory for the Tartans improves their record to 7-4 and 1-1 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play while the 19th-ranked Maroons are now 6-4-1, 0-1-1.

The first half of play was controlled by the home team, as they rattled off 11 shots to the visitor's three.  In the 30th minute of play Reid took a through pass from freshman Jordyn Greenberg (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain) and fired a shot on net from 10-yards out to the near post for the only goal of the contest.

The Maroons turned things around in the second half, as they outshot the Tartans 8-3, but Chicago was unable to find the back of the net.  Six of the Maroons second half shots came in the last six minutes of play including two in the last minute.

Sophomore keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) made four saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.  Maroon keeper Emma Gormley had five stops on the afternoon.

Carnegie Mellon will return to action Friday, October 14 when they travel to Rochester, N.Y. to play the Yellowjackets.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
