Tartans Beat Weather and Washington & Jefferson by 2-1 Score

(WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The No. 17 Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team beat the weather and Washington & Jefferson College on Wednesday night with by a 2-1 score. The Tartans sandwiched their goals around a 30-minute weather delay to move their record to 2-1-1 on the year while the Presidents drop to 0-4.

Senior Cecilia Zischkau (Washington, D.C./Oakcrest) put the Tartans on the board first with an unassisted marker in the 38th minute just before the game was delayed by lightning. Zischkau's second goal of the season came after she slipped a shot past W&J's keeper who came out to stop the ball.

Just after play resumed, sophomore Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) gave the Tartans a 2-0 advantage with a shot 10 yards out. Assisting on the play were senior Rachel Contopoulos (Oakland, Calif./Berkeley) and freshman Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia).

Washington & Jefferson cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 70th minute when Holly Shipley got a shot past keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) as she left her line to make a play.

For the match, Albi made two saves and earned the win while the Tartans put another four shots on goal that Morgan Kinyon saved.

Carnegie Mellon will next face Kenyon College on Saturday, September 14 at 1 p.m. in Gambier, Ohio.
