No. 14 Tartans Tie Chicago 0-0 in UAA Opener

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team tied the University of Chicago 0-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA) opener for both teams. The No. 14 Tartans are now 6-1-2 overall while the Maroons sit at 7-2-1.

The Tartans had four shot attempts in the first period and three in the second period while the Maroons mustered one shot for regulation. Some threatening opportunities came about for both teams inside the box off corner kicks but all were cleared away by the defense. The Tartans had seven corner kicks to the Maroons' six for regulation.

Sophomore Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) had the first shot attempt in overtime as her shot sailed wide of the frame in the 93rd minute.

Freshman Megan Bartoshuk (Redwood City, Calif./Sequoia) pressured Jacinda Reid into a save in the 96th minute with a laser from 10 yard outs as time expired and went on to the second overtime period.

In the first minute of the second overtime, Chicago's Natalia Jovanovic's free kick from 25 yards out was both high and wide of the goal.

The Tartans will next face Washington University on Saturday, October 12 in St. Louis with the match set to start at 1:30 p.m. CT.
