(ST. LOUIS, Mo.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team, ranked 14th nationally, dropped a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest to No. 3 Washington University 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Francis Field in St. Louis, Missouri.
The Tartans fell behind 2-0 in the first half. The Bears first goal was scored when senior Jessica Johnson took a pass from sophomore Olivia Lillegraven and finished the play with a shot to the far corner of the net in the 5th minute of play.
Johnson then assisted on the Bears second goal of the game in the 43rd minute, as she passed the ball to junior Lillie Toaspern who finished with a shot to the far corner.
Carnegie Mellon was determined to make a comeback. Freshman Anna Vonderhaar (Wheaton, Ill./St. Francis) scored the lone Tartan goal of the game 1:15 following Toaspern's goal. Vonderhaar struck the ball from 30 yards out sending it past the reach of Bears' sophomore goalie Amy French. The goal was Vonderhaar's first as a Tartan.

The Tartans defense was strong in the second half. Goalkeeper Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) had three saves in the last 45 minutes of play keeping the Bears scoreless in the frame.
With this loss to the Bears, the Tartans ended a six-game unbeaten streak.
The Tartans are now 6-2-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in the UAA. Washington U. improves to 11-1 overall and has a 2-0 mark in UAA play. The Tartans will continue UAA play at home against Brandeis on Friday, October 18.
