Women’s Soccer All-Association Honors Announced

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) – The University Athletic Association (UAA) announced its Women's Soccer All-Association honors Friday, November 15 with seven Carnegie Mellon players earning the distinction. Three players received second-team honors with another four earning honorable mention status.

Senior defender Rachel Contopoulos (Oakland, Calif./Berkeley), sophomore midfielder Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and junior forward Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) received second-team recognition. Contopoulos leads the team in points with 10, scoring two goals and assisting on six. Two of her assists came in the double-overtime loss to University of Rochester. The honor marks the second of her career as she was honorable mention in 2012. Quiros receives the honor for the first time and is tied for second on the team with eight points. The sophomore has tallied three goals and two assists with one goal coming in Association play. Although not scoring a goal this season, Reid has impacted every game with her speed of play and game awareness. She has registered two assists with one coming in a 2-1 win against New York University. The second-team honor is the second of her career and third overall as she was a first-team recipient in 2012.

Honorable mention honors went to senior Alex Venegas (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake), junior Lauren Simicich (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), sophomore Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak), and freshman Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle).

A forward, Venegas played in seven games for the Tartans this year due to a preseason injury. She started six games, all UAA, tallying two goals including the game winner in a 1-0 win over Case Western Reserve University. Simicich played central defender for the Tartans and is honored for the second year. She is part of a defense that recorded six shutouts and a goals against average of 1.08. Pendergast, last year's UAA Rookie of the Year, is tied for the team lead in goals scored with four. The midfielder recorded two game winners including the lone goal in the win over Brandeis University. Liston started three of nine games played in goal for the Tartans with all three starts coming in UAA play. She logged a 4-1 record with a 2-1 UAA mark recording two shutouts.

The Tartans' season continues on Saturday, November 16 with their second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament. The team will face York (Pa.) College in the first round at 11:00 a.m. on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.
