Tartans End Season in First Round of NCAA Tournament

(BALTIMORE, Md.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer season concluded Saturday afternoon in the 2013 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship first round when it faced York (Pa.) College at Johns Hopkins University. The Spartans' first-half goal stood up for a 1-0 win over the Tartans who finish the year with a 9-5-3 record.

In an evenly played first half where York (13-4-3) took six shots and the Tartans five, a shot in the 26th minute by Emily Cronise proved to be the difference as she finished a pass across the center by Elexa Sherman. The shot by Cronise deflected off senior keeper Anna Albi (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) who was unable to make the stop.

The Tartans dominated in the second half taking 12 shots to the Spartans one but were unable to finish their opportunities.

Senior forward Alex Venegas (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) finished the game with two of three shots on goal while junior forward Savina Reid (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y./Briarcliff) had one shot on goal and four shots total.
