Seven Honored on UAA Women’s Soccer All-Association Team

(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Seven Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer players garnered University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer All-Association honors following its UAA Championship season. Senior Carson Quiros (Atlanta, Ga./Whitefield Academy) and sophomore Tori Iatarola (West Dundee, Ill./Loyola Academy) each earned first team honors.

Joining Quiros and Iatarola on the Association Team are sophomore Haili Adams (Kirkland, Wash./Juanita), junior Katie Liston (Lakewood, Ohio/Montessori HS at University Circle) and sophomore Katie Strycharz (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) on the second team and senior Louisa Pendergast (Snohomish, Wash./Glacier Peak) and sophomore Keely Jelinek (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage) as honorable mention honorees.

Quiros and Iatarola both recorded four goals during the season with Iatarola adding five assists and Quiros two. Iatarola, who was last year's UAA Rookie of the Year and repeats as a first-team selection, scored two of her goals in UAA play as both came against nationally ranked opponents. She also tallied the game winner against nationally ranked Wheaton (Ill.) College. Quiros, a defensive midfielder, scored three of her goals against UAA competition while tallying both goals scored in the Tartans' 2-0 victory against the University of Rochester. The first-team honor goes down as Quiros's third Association honor as she was on the second team twice.

Adams has played midfield and forward for the Tartans, tallying five goals and three assists. She scored the game winner against Case Western Reserve University to close the regular season and give the Tartans a share of the UAA title. Liston earned second-team honors for the first time after being a two-time honorable-mention selection. This season she has shut out seven opponents in goal for the Tartans, including five UAA teams, and has the school's career record for shutouts with 21. In 10 games played due to an early-season injury, Liston has a 0.28 goals against average and is on pace to own the Tartan single-season record. Strycharz makes her second appearance on the All-Association team and first as a second-team honoree. An outside back, Strycharz has helped limit the opposition's attack as the team has recorded 10 shutouts. She has recorded two assists with one coming against nationally ranked University of Chicago.

Pendergast received honorable-mention recognition for the second time in her career as she was also the UAA Rookie of the Year in 2012. This year, Pendergast has recorded five goals and one assist. One of her goals came in the Tartans' 2-0 win at nationally ranked Brandeis University. Jelinek moved from center back to outside back and earns her second All-Association honor after making the first team as a freshman. Like Strycharz, Jelinek limited the opposition's attack while contributing to the Tartans' attack.

The Tartans, currently ranked fifth in the nation, will host the first and second rounds of the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships on November 14 and 15. They are making their fourth straight appearance in the tournament and will open play against Cabrini College on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
