#12 Tartans Fall in Home UAA Contest, 2-0, to #10 Brandeis

(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) - In a battle of top 15 teams, the 12th-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to 10th-ranked Brandeis University after lightning caused a two-hour delay. The Tartans are now 7-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the UAA while the Judges move to 9-1 and 2-0.

After a scoreless first half that saw each team put one shot on goal, the Judges broke through in the 52nd minute. Daria Bakhtiari fired a shot from distance that squeaked between sophomore Carolyn Botz (St. Louis, Mo. / MICDS) and the left post for her fourth goal of the season. Hannah Maatallah served a ball to the box that was headed out by a Tartan defender but it landed at Bakhtiari's foot and she was able to take a few dribbles into open space before her shot that broke the tie.

A little less than 10 minutes later, Katie Hayes picked off a Tartan pass in the midfield. She, too, was able to take a few dribbles into space before launching a shot from 25 yards that got over the hands of Botz who leapped in the air for the save attempt. The score was the fourth of the season for Hayes.

In the 82nd minute, junior Sydney Webber (Nashville, Tenn. / Harpeth Hall) put a free kick on frame but it was saved by Sierra Dana.

The Tartans will next host the University of Chicago when the Maroons come to Pittsburgh for a 7:30 p.m. match on Friday, October 12.
