(PITTSBURGH, Pa.) – The second-ranked Carnegie Mellon University women's soccer team recorded another shutout, its sixth straight, and topped Ohio Northern University at home on Friday, September 15 by a 4-0 score. The Tartans are now 7-0 while the Polar Bears dropped to 0-4-1 after playing three top-25 opponents.
Inside The Box Score
- Junior Cecelia Dieterich opened the scoring in the eighth minute after she finished off a cross by sophomore Jenna Hallbeck that was tipped by the keeper but not secured.
- Fourteen minutes after entering the game, freshman Saveria Ulizzi gave the Tartans a 2-0 advantage after dribbling by and around a defender to the left and firing off a left-footed shot to the opposite post.
- The third goal of the first half came in the closing minutes when senior Alana Frederick sent a corner kick to the back post where senior Breana Valentovish charged the net and got a piece of the ball to get it by the keeper.
- Junior Ayana Curto used a feed from Dieterich in the final 38 seconds of the game to score her second goal of the season with a left-footed free strike over the keeper.
- Sophomore Abby O'Connor faced four shots, the most this season, and went the distance to record her second shutout.
- The Tartans also recorded shots on goal by graduate student Kaitlyn Montague, freshman Natalie Rayce, and freshman Sai Sankhe.
Notes
- Dieterich now leads the team with five goals and is second on the team in points with 11.
- The Tartans' seven-game win streak to open the season is the best since they went 9-0 in 2014.
- The Polar Bears are the first team the Tartans have faced this season that played in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
- Today's meeting was the first between the two programs since the Tartans topped the Polar Bears 3-0 in the round of 16 of the 2019 NCAA Championship.
