Bianco and O'Connor Earn UAA Weekly Awards
(ROCHESTER, N.Y.) - Carnegie Mellon University sophomore Audrey Bianco and junior Abby O'Connor have been named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Women's Soccer Athletes of the Week for their respective performances in a 2-0 win at the University of Rochester on Saturday, October 5. The awards mark the second straight week a Tartan has been honored.
Bianco was named the UAA Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week after she extended her point-scoring streak to four games with the second goal of the game for the fourth-ranked Tartans at 20th-ranked Rochester. Bianco's goal came in the 56th minute and gave the Tartans the cushion they needed in a road game against a ranked opponent. Bianco also had a shot earlier in the second half that went high. The sophomore has scored in three of the last four games while she earned the assist in the 1-0 win against 21st-ranked Brandeis last week.
O'Connor was named the UAA Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for her part in the shutout. O'Connor made three second-half saves to preserve the shutout, her third straight, fourth against a ranked opponent, and sixth for the season. Her first save came with the Tartans leading 1-0 while the final two came in the last 15 minutes of the game with the Tartans leading 2-0.
The Tartans continue the season at home against 23rd-ranked Emory University on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m.
